Top NBA Plays 3/6 | Getting Into the Must-Win Zone
The playoffs are fast approaching and for teams like Sacramento (3GB), Charlotte (tie), and Miami (tie) it's getting to be must win time. All of those teams are currently just outside the postseason seeding and are in action tonight. Do we adjust our DFS strategy to favor these teams in do-or-die situations?
Tonight's Headline Games
Somebody is going to drop a bit in the Eastern Conference playoff race as the Heat and Hornets (-3) square off against each other Wednesday. Both teams are in a dead lock with the Magic for the 8 seed.
The Timberwolves had a great victory over OKC last night powered by 41/14 from Karl-Anthony Towns. Can you ride Towns ($10,800) again battling on 0 days rest vs. Andre Drummond ($9,000) and the Pistons?
The Celtics also put some doubts to rest in a 33 point win at Golden State. Does Boston keep it going on a B2B at Sacramento (+1.5)?
Is it hammer time on the Denver Nuggets at the Lakers (+5.5) or is LA so bad that a blowout is expected?
The Spurs are back on the road where they just went 1-7. San Antonio was solid in a 3-game home stand but what do you think of them at Atlanta?
Guards
Trae Young (DK: $8,800 FD: $8,400 Y! $36) Ownership: 4.7%
Getting back on the Trae Young train Wednesday. The Atlanta PG is back at home and should be caught up on rest after the 56 minute, 4OT outing vs. Chicago last Friday. The Spurs have given up 40+ point fantasy nights to 4 of the past 5 PG but we want 60+ out of this slot.
Derrick Rose (DK: $5,300 FD: $5,500 Y! $19) Ownership 2.7%
Minnesota is on a B2B on Wednesday but Derrick Rose logged just 19 minutes in the win over OKC on Tuesday. He still had 19 points and 27 point fantasy night, however. Jeff Teague and Josh Okogie both had 30+ minutes of usage, so expect a bit more from Rose and the bench vs. Detroit. The last time Rose went up against the Pistons on December 19th he had 33 points in place of the injured Teague. Rose also went for 23 points and 4 assists in Minnesota's last B2B on February 22nd.
Jeremy Lamb (DK: $5,200, FD; $6,800 Y!:$22 ) Ownership 4.2%
Yes, he's technically a backup but you've got to love the minutes that Jeremy Lamb sees for Charlotte (31+ in four straight). Lamb gets off his shots over that time too, with attempts of 13, 15, 15, and 13. The Hornets G has gone for 40+ fp in two of his last three home games and is up against a Miami squad that is 20th defensively vs. both the SG and SF position.
Forwards
Cedi Osman (DK: $5,500 FD: $6,100 Y! $20) Ownership 4%
Can Cedi Osman deliver one of those 40+ point fantasy nights vs. Brooklyn? The Cavs F went for 43 and 44 fp in back-to-back games last week but has since dropped off a bit with a 20 and 33 point night. Osman's 44 point night came in Cleveland's only away game in the past 7 and the Cavs are back on the road again tonight. The Nets allowed a 50 fantasy point night to Trevor Ariza last week so the potential is there at least.
Julius Randle (DK: $8,400 FD: $8,500 Y!: $36) Ownership 8.24%
Utah has been playing solid defense vs. the PF position but you still have to like Julius Randle in this spot. The Pelicans big man has a 50 point floor in 4 of the past 5 games and is getting a ton of shots (23, 20, 14, 22, 18) and minutes (39, 38, 28, 40, 34) over that span. New Orleans was in Utah on Monday and Randle put up a 30/8/5 line.
Noah Vonleh (DK: $4,600, FD: $4,700 Y! $15) Ownership 8.24%
There's solid salary relief with upside on the Knicks' Noah Vonleh. He actually had a 40 point fantasy night on Sunday, going 6-8 from the field while grabbing 12 rebounds. Minutes are an issue with any New York player but Vonleh actually has 34 and 28 over the past two games. He's got a very favorable matchup with Phoenix who gave up a 49 point fantasy night to Kelly Olynyk last week.
Center
Deandre Ayton (DK: $7,400 FD: $8,500 Y!: $28) Ownership 3.74%
The Suns' Deandre Ayton has been trending up the last two games, scoring 50 and 45 fp while logging 34 minutes in both games. He had hit a lull, not breaking 34 fp in the six games prior but should continue the strong play Wednesday vs. the Knicks. Deandre Jordan is Q but plays minimal minutes anyways. NYK allowed a 58 point fantasy night to Nikola Vucevic last week and Ayton should approach 50+ in this one.
Utility Player
Allonzo Trier (DK:$4,500 FD:$5,200 Y!: $14) Ownership 1.29%
Tonight's lineup leaves just $4800 at the utility spot. One of the best value plays at that spot is New York's Allonzo Trier who went for 45 fantasy points on Monday. Phoenix has allowed 120+ in 3 of the last 5 and New York has been playing much better lately...for some reason.
A ton of games on the slate tonight which, unfortunately, leaves just a 2-pack for Thursday. That's where we really have to ramp up the strategy if you decide to play that card. Until then, check out Carl Taylor (@dailydogsports) on Twitter for more NBA betting talk and DFS news.
