Top NBA Plays 4/9 | Penultimate Teller

Tomorrow is the last day of school for the NBA DFS regular season but we've got one more big final to take today. It's kind of a toss-up this evening with an 11-game card and a decent portion of squads playing their last game of the year. Things can get wild when the offseason is only hours away, so let's see how the slate lays out for us in this one:

Tonight's DFS Headlines

There's only one postseason spot still contested and it's for the 8 seed in the East:

The Pistons have a 1 game lead on the 8 spot right now and can all but punch their ticket to the postseason with a win at home tonight vs. Memphis (DET-10.5). Detroit follows that up with a game against the Knicks Wednesday, so they're likely postseason bound.

There's still hope for the Hornets, who are in a must-win tonight vs. the Cavs. Charlotte is 1GB from Detroit and hosts Orlando tomorrow.

The Heat are also 1GB from the Pistons. Miami has the Sixers and Nets to wind down the year so their backs are definitely against the wall.

A lot of top players including Kyrie Irving and Joel Embiid are sitting tonight to stay healthy for the postseason. It's going to be an interesting night.

Detroit is putting it all on the line tonight and has a very favorable matchup to do so.

Guards

Wayne Ellington (DK: $5000 FD: $5100 Y! $11) Ownership: 4%

The production could dip for Wayne Ellington if Blake Griffin returns Wednesday (GTD - knee) but it also might stay up because of the matchup with Memphis. The Grizzlies are throwing out a skeleton crew the last 2 games of the year because of all their injuries and just allowed a 43fp night to Courtney Lee on Friday. The price is right for Ellington, who is starting at SG in a must-win game and has upside with 35+ fp in 3 of his last 6.

Fred VanVleet (DK: $5600 FD: $5400 Y! $17) Ownership 5.58%

Kyle Lowry at $6800 is too expensive considering he has a 29 and a 23 point fantasy night over his last three games and the fact that Toronto really doesn't have anything to play for tonight. The back court matchup with Minnesota is a great one though and it could be Fred VanVleet that exploits that considering he could be getting the majority of the minutes at the PG spot. The Timberwolves have allowed at least 39 fp to the last 5 PG they've faced and have allowed 130+ points in three of their last six games. VanVleet does have a 36 and a 40 point night two of the last three times he's seen 30+ minutes, so there's that...

The T'Wolves are leaking on defense to the PG position so here's hoping VanVleet sees extended minutes.

Klay Thompson (DK: $6400 FD: $6900 Y! $25) Ownership 2.14%

Klay Thompson has been an afterthought lately with a fantasy high of just 30 points over the past 7 games. If there's ever a time to snap out of a funk and get your head right before the playoffs it's vs. the Pelicans defense. New Orleans has allowed at least 129 points in 4 of the last 6 games.

Forwards

Mikal Bridges (DK: $4700 FD: $5200 Y!: $14) Ownership 2.28%

It's the last hurrah for Phoenix on Tuesday, which means there's a great chance Mikal Bridges continues his intense usage (40+ minutes in three of four). The banged-up Suns play the Mavs in their finale, and Dallas just allowed consecutive 120+ point games to Memphis over the weekend. Delon Wright had back-to-back triple/doubles vs. the Mavericks in the back-court and Bridges is technically the starting SG for Phoenix, even though he can be slotted in the F spot here.

Jakarr Sampson (DK: $6100 FD: $6300 Y!: $14) Ownership 12.28%

Jakarr Sampson has looked more like Ralph in his first three games with the Bulls, going for 35, 36, and 45 fantasy points the last three games. Experienced DFS players know that Sampson is likely due for a hair cut tonight as the chalk rises on him. There are some reasons to think he finishes the season strong though. The first of which is that the Bulls are at home vs. the Knicks tonight. Not only that, there are not a lot of options for Chicago right now, as Sampson and Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot were the only players to score more than 8 points Saturday vs. Philadelphia.

The "Sampson Size" has been very small but this Bulls F has been clicking.

Jeremy Lamb (DK: $5700 FD: $6300 Y! $18) Ownership 2%

There's good value and low ownership on Jeremy Lamb tonight as Charlotte is in a must-win situation, but more importantly, up against the Cavs, who have lost 9 straight. Cleveland has allowed 120+ points to 3 of 5 opponents and Lamb has 30+ fantasy points in 4 of 5 games since battling an ankle injury.

Center

Karl-Anthony Towns (DK: $9700, FD; $10,3000 Y!:$45 ) Ownership 2.92%

There's a lot of value on tonight's card, which leaves a lot of money to spend on center and utility. The C spot is a little bit thinner with Joel Embiid out and players like Nikola Jokic and Julius Randle being game-time decisions. Therefore, Karl-Anthony Towns seems to be the play as the Wolves play their final game at the Target Center for the year. Minnesota is up against a Toronto team with nothing to play for and there's no reason Towns doesn't post his third 50+ (hopefully much higher) fantasy point night over the last four games.

On paper Towns is in a rough spot but what is Toronto's incentive tonight?

Utility Player

Mario Hezonja (DK:$5700 FD:$7700 Y!: $17) Ownership 15.08%

Mario Hezonja is making the most out of closing time as the 2018/19 regular season comes to an end. He's put up 50, 57, and 48 fantasy points the last three games while posting field goal attempts of 22, 11, and 21. Normally this would be the time to say thank you for your service and back away, but the Knicks are rolling with a 7-8 man rotation right now because of injuries and they have a very good matchup with the fellow injury-riddled Bulls tonight.

Hezonja is on a heater right now.

One more day left on the NBA regular season schedule for Wednesday and it's a good one with 11 games. We'll hit it hard then. For more discussion, feel free to check out Carl Taylor (@dailydogsports) on Twitter for sports betting talk and DFS news.
