Top NBA Plays 8/18| Star Power Reloaded

The postseason is the time for stars to shine and that was evident from day one as Donovan Mitchell (81 fp), Luka Doncic (66), and Kawhi Leonard (60) all had huge opening games. Fred VanVleet added 60fp in a 24-point Toronto win so potential blowout games aren't necessarily a DFS downfall.

Stars are definitely out in today's 4-pack of games starting with Giannis Antetokounmpo ($10.5k) playing the Magic with Milwaukee a -12.5 favorite. James Harden ($11.7k) is playing without Russell Westbrook (quad), while the nightcap is Damian Lillard ($11.4k) coming off a couple 73+ fp bubble games vs. LeBron James ($10.7k) and Anthony Davis ($10.4k).

That's not even taking into account the Jimmy Butler ($7.6k) vs. TJ Warren ($8k) matchup. Get the wallets out, there's a lot of spending up for today.

Today's NBA Matchups

Magic vs. Bucks (-12.5), O/U 225

1:30 PM ET

Both Orlando and Milwaukee were 3-5 in the bubble but the consensus is that this series is a mismatch. It's hard to match up with the Bucks as it is, but the Magic have to do it without Aaron Gordon (hamstring), Jonathan Isaac (knee), and Michael Carter-Williams (foot).

Heat (-4.5) vs. Pacers, O/U 215.5

4:00 PM ET

TJ Warren averaged 31 ppg during the bubble, but doesn't match up well with the Heat, scoring 10.3 in three games against Miami. Warren had just 19fp in the first game vs. Miami in the restart and sat out the second. 10 players on both teams scored in double figures in the first bubble meeting with 9 in the 2nd. This is a matchup of depth, which isn't great for DFS purposes.

Thunder (-1.5) vs. Rockets, O/U 225.5

6:30 PM ET

Could we see another 80+ fp night after Donovan Mitchell's strong performance on Monday? James Harden has averaged over a point a minute in his last four in the bubble and also has three games of 9+ assists and a 17 rebound contest over that span. OKC is missing their best defender Luguentz Dort (knee) and Harden gets nearly a 10fp boost with Westbrook out.

Trail Blazers vs. Lakers (-6), O/U 230.5

9:00 PM ET

Damian Lillard had a 51 real point average over three of the final four games in the bubble and scored 48 vs. the Lakers at the end of January. Anthony Davis has seen some struggles since the restart, but we'll see how he does when things get real.

Guards

Frank Mason III DK $3.8k | FD $3.5k

With so many stars in action tonight, you have to try and find some salary relief somewhere. Milwaukee's Frank Mason III provides just that in what could be a 💣Blowout Game 💣against Orlando. Mason has shot 18-31 the last three games in the bubble while also averaging 6 assists over that span. Sure those were in increased minutes, but the Magic are really shorthanded this afternoon.

Kendrick Nunn DK $5.6k | FD $4.8k

Kendrick Nunn has gone from starter to a bench role but that's not necessarily a bad thing vs. the Pacers' top 3 scoring defense. Nunn launched 27 shots vs. the Pacers on Friday but with most of the Miami starters sitting. Nunn did have 17 field goal attempts a game prior, however.

Nunn should get his shots playing with the 2nd unit.

James Harden DK$11.7k | FD $11.5

It goes without saying but it needs to be said. It's a 7X night even at that price.

Forwards

Carmelo Anthony $5.8k | FD $5.4k

There's nice value on Carmelo Anthony tonight considering he has shot 15, 12, 17, and 13 times the last four games. You'd have to think that only increases vs. L.A. The Lakers gave up 52fp at the power forward position to Nemanja Bjelica last outing (albeit in a meaningless game) and were torched for 39 real points by T.J. Warren last week. Anthony has 20+ real points in 4 of the last 5 which will only be helped by Zach Collins' (ankle) being out.

Dion Waiters DK $4.1k | FD $3.8k

Dion Waiters could be a surprise performer for the Lakers tonight. He's got a matchup with the Trail Blazers who are a bit thin at the F position and where CJ McCollum is battling through an injured back. Waiters will play both the G and F spot and doesn't need a whole lot of minutes to get his shots up. Waiters has 10+ field goal attempts in 5 of 7 bubble games while not playing more than 26 minutes.

You know some random Laker is going to have a breakout vs. this Portland defense.

Danilo Gallinari DK $6.1k | FD $5.2k

Will Danilo Gallinari return to normal usage tonight? He's been basically on vacation so far in the bubble, not playing more than 22 minutes in the last four games. You'd think that would increase tonight though and with a solid matchup against Houston's #5 pace and small ball lineup that is 17th in rebounds/game. Gallinari has gone for 25/13 and 23/11 the last two vs. the Rockets.

It's a solid defensive matchup for Gallinari.

Center

Steven Adams DK $6.4k | FD $5.4

6'11" Steven Adams is going to look like an elementary school teacher playing hoops with his students at recess against Houston's small ball defense. 6'5" P.J. Tucker mans the C spot for the Rockets and has had some success down low because of his physical play that upsets some of the more finesse big men in the league. Adams loves a good tussle, however.

Of course, the Thunder could also counter with a smaller, quicker lineup which cuts into Adams' usage. He's also battled a left leg contusion during the bubble and played just 6:22 last game. Even so, it's better to get ahead of this one for the matchup instead of missing out.
