Top NBA Plays 8/19| So It's Going to Be Like That
Well, it looks like we should just forget everything we thought we knew about the NBA after yesterday's action. Both #1 seeds, the Bucks and Lakers were beaten. The Rockets looked better without Russell Westbrook and I had three guys projected high that played a combined 1:19.
Everything could return to normal today - or the bizarro bubble could strike again with Luka Doncic having a 12fp night, Donovan Mitchell shooting 1-19, and the Raptors losing to the Nets by 20.
On the bright side, it's the second time we'll see today's teams. It was hard to predict the minutes and rotation for the first game coming out of a restart that didn't mean a whole lot for most teams.
Of course, everybody else has these numbers available too. Oh well, onward and upward.
Today's NBA Matchups
Nets vs. Raptors (-11), O/U 226.5
1:30 PM ET
The Raptors were up by 33 points at one time in game one vs. the undermanned Nets and there's no reason to think that doesn't continue this afternoon. Despite the blowout, Fred VanVleet ($7.6k), Kyle Lowry ($8k), and Pascal Siakam all still played 32+ minutes and took 13+ shots. Caris LeVert ($8.2k) "only" took 14 shots in game one, but he also dished out 15 assists.
Jazz vs. Nuggets (-4), O/U 217.5
4:00 PM ET
This would seem to be a game to target today, as they combined for 260 points in game one, with Denver winning 135-125 in OT. Donovan Mitchell dropped 81fp and has seen a price jump from $8k to $9.2k. Jamal Murray ($7.2k) has played two games against the Jazz since the restart, scoring 54 and 59 fp.
Sixers vs. Celtics (-4.5), O/U 214.5
6:30 PM ET
Joel Embiid ($9.9k) didn't get much help from his teammates in game one with Tobias Harris and Al Horford combining for just 21 points. The Sixers bench could be the target tonight as Marcus Smart has to step into the starting lineup for the injured Gordon Hayward.
Mavericks vs. Clippers (-6.5), O/U 229.5
9:00 PM ET
Luca Doncic($11k) went for 42/7/9 for a 66fp playoff debut. Dallas lost 118-110 due largely in part to Kristaps Porzingis ($8.9k) getting ejected. Porzingis had just 26fp in 20 minutes and his price is actually went up $600 today. Kawhi Leonard ($10k) had a 60fp opener and Paul George ($8.6k) added 40fp which will likely be the status quo for this series.
Guards
Jordan Clarkson DK $4.7k | FD $5.1k
You have to take the numbers with a grain of salt because of OT, but Jordan Clarkson looked like an integral part of the series for Utah in game one. He played 39 minutes, shooting 8-17 from the field for a 28fp night. That number will rise if he can go better than 2-9 from beyond the arc and as Denver focuses more on stopping Donovan Mitchell, who had 57 real points on Monday.
Alec Burks DK $4.6k | FD $4.1k
Great price tag on Alec Burks tonight as he faces a Boston 2nd team defense that will no longer have Marcus Smart - who moves into the starting role for Gordon Hayward. Burks tore up the Celtics in game one, scoring 18 points and grabbing 6 rebounds in 27 minutes. Burks was 6-15 from the field and is clear cut main option for the reserves, as the rest of the bench was just 2-4. Burks is getting starter usage (Shake Milton played just 25 minutes in game one) at backup price.
Tim Hardaway, Jr. DK$5.3k | FD $5.2
The Clippers can't be happy with how easy Doncic made things look in his playoff debut. Marcus Morris is also in Porzingis' head so the Mavs are going to need a solid third option tonight. Tim Hardaway, Jr. seems to be the obvious benefactor of the ripple down effect and he actually took the 2nd most shots behind Doncic in game one, going 7-16 from the field including 4-11 from three. Hardaway added 6 rebounds for a 31fp night and his price has actually dropped a bit.
Forwards
Jerami Grant $4.6k | FD $4.7k
Jerami Grant ended up logging 40 minutes in the game one OT win by Denver. He played aggressively vs. the Utah defense, getting to the line 8 times which was the most of any Nuggets player. Grant finished with 29fp, but he did that without grabbing a single rebound. Any peripherals at all in game two and you're looking at nearly a 7X night.
Jayson Tatum DK $9k | FD $8.7k
Jayson Tatum is the guy to spend up for tonight. As good as he was Monday (10-21, 13 rebounds) the Celtics PF could be even better tonight. Hayward and his 13 shots from game one are gone for the foreseeable future with an ankle injury and Jaylen Brown (9-16 Monday) will play through a thigh injury. That's potentially a lot of shots available for a guy who just took 21 last game.
Garrett Temple DK $4.6k | FD $4.3k
Nets G/F Garrett Temple was probably even a mediocre shooting night away from nearly 40fp in game one. Instead, he finished with 21fp after an atrocious 5-15 including 1-10 from three point range. You still have to like the quantity of shots though, as well as the fact that Temple had the 2nd most minutes behind LeVert even in the blowout loss to Toronto.
Center
Serge Ibaka DK $5.7k | FD $5.8
Serge Ibaka looks healthy after missing the last three games in the bubble. The Toronto big man was efficient vs. Brooklyn in game one, scoring 22 real points in 25 minutes. In his last game before hurting his knee, Ibaka went for 12/12 for a 38fp night again in just 25:07 of court time. If you're worried about the Raptors blowout - don't be. Ibaka doesn't need many minutes to get his - especially against a Brooklyn team thin up front.
